What is the Library & Inquiry Program All About?
It’s way more than checking out books!
The Palmyra-Macedon Primary School Library, Inquiry and Technology Program guides students in developing those first foundational steps that will support a lifetime of interaction with and use of ideas and information. In today's world, it is easy to become overwhelmed with the massive amount of information that comes our way through a variety of media. The 21st Century learner thinks critically about what they see and hear; this learner does not simply accept things at face value, but rather questions, explores and investigates to deepen their own understanding and solve problems. They do not simply memorize things, they figure things out. They know how to learn.
We refer to individuals with these skills as "information fluent"---they recognize when they need information, they read, listen and view to locate the best information, they organize and create products to share, and they reflect on their process to set goals for the future. They are collaborators, creators and communicators of knowledge and they share their learning with a global community.
